Adventures in Scheduling

I have a simple schedule.  It's on paper - yet there are no set times, other than trying to hit meals when they should basically happen and naps (2-ish).  Here's my basic plan:

Cute, eh?

Yet how can I even get through this schedule (including my own household chores) when THESE types of distractions are happening?!?

All of a sudden, accompanied by raucous honking, two Canadian geese arrive in our pond.

They swam around for a while, just checkin' out the perimeter.

Then they really begin a scouting mission.

It was soon apparent why these two geese were being so cautious.

~A lovely family~

The original two geese kept a close eye out the whole time the family was visiting.

(yes, I've heard geese can be mean ~ I've warned my children.  The Goose Family made one more visit this evening, so we shall see if they return or begin to cause a problem...)

Then there's my terribly talented 7yod who loves to scoop up tadpoles!
(my 8yo is too chicken - he doesn't like to touch *gross* stuff)

Off course, we *had* to investigate!
They both have cute lil' froggie hind-legs ~ and we learned a lot on-line and in our readings.

As a home educatin' family, you know we just HAD to make a school project out of it.
Mini-book included!

And the garden.  Here's some lettuce sprouting up ~ my 5yod can't wait!!

I'm personally very excited about red onions, yellow onions, green onions!

My carrot "patch" ~ those seeds are TINY ~ I will need to do some *serious* thinning when the time comes.

My early-girl tomato plant ~ she's doing the best of the bunch after our COLD start.
I may just have to replace a few of the others....live & learn.

And these brambles, out back, by the woods.  What are they?
I'm kinda hopin' for some kind of edible berry...

...'cause there are TONS of 'em!!

I guess even with my basic, easy-going schedule....I need to remain flexible.  When Selah came running in talking about tadpoles, well, there went the next 3 hours, easily!!  Of course, it's "Science", right?!  And we still managed read-aloud's and math, so I'm FINE with that!

Plus dinner was BBQ Chicken on the grill w/ rice (homemade BBQ sauce to boot - go honey!!) and Lemon Cheesecake Squares for dessert.....I'm not sure it gets much better than that in one day :)

I'm exhausted, but it's a GOOD exhausted~

Awe...SWEET! Your whole day was just absolutely adorable. All the pond adventures must be so fun for your kiddos. How exciting to see the baby geese, the growing froggies, and the sprouting garden. What an amazing world God has made!

It's great that even though you have a schedule, you grab those special moments when they arrive. Go Lori! I want a pond...
