old & new

Here's the promised pics of my fireplace "before" and "after". What do you think? Do you like that the new fireplace has a mantle instead of the rock going all the way up? I like it but now I'll have to figure out how to decorate it...

BEFORE:

AFTER:

As you can see, it wasn't all that much structural damage - but we had a lot of smoke/soot damage throughout the house. I guess it has to do with the fact that some 2X4s were slowly smoldering over a period of time - and the smoke/soot was slowly going through our home - even before we got there (we are renting). So even though it doesn't appear that bad, they did *a lot* of work in our home.

Oh, well, at least I know my home is clean - even the hard to reach places (at least for now)!

I like it better- it looks alot more 'neat and clean'. I like the mantle above it. I have always wanted a fireplace and mantle. Very pretty.

I too have always wanted a mantle - something about hanging stockings from it for Christmas, I think.

Now I just have to figure out how I want to decorate it. It's on this LARGE wall with a vaulted ceiling - I just don't own a lot of LARGE decorating items.

Oh well, minor stuff here.

Hey Lori!

I found you from Holly's blog for Pastor's Families. I used to read your old blog, and you just had the three kids. My hubby's a PCA pastor and we have 5 kids (5 and under). I'm so glad to have found your blog. I always found your posts uplifting and encouraging - esp. coming from a fellow pastors wife!

Sincerely,
Anna

Hi Anna,
So glad to have you back around!
I applaud you with the whole 5, 5 and under deal - it's *hard*. I just have the four and I think it's very difficult. I wouldn't trade it for the WORLD, mind you, but that doesn't change the facts.

Growing up in a two child home, well, I just never learned about all this child rearing stuff. Praise God His mercies are new each day and my children are young and forgiving!

Hope to see you around~
Lori

I love your new fireplace. I enjoy having a mantle. Of course hubby says it never looks the same from one day to the next.
Right now I have the canvas with our family vision on it propped up on the mantle.
